- Narcissus – beauty reflected
The story of the young greek man who fell in love with his own image
The exhibition circuit features a stage installation that evokes the myth of Narcissus, a paradigm of Western culture concerning the cultivation of one’s own image, the artist’s gaze at himself. The water mirror and the yellow flower into which Narcissus metamorphosed present the most widespread version of the fable. More than a psychoanalytical reading, the myth of Narcissus is taken as allegorical material referring to the issue of artistic self-representation and the contemporary phenomenon of the selfie.
Through a timeline, the exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the transition from analog photographic self-portraits to digital selfies and to sensorially experience variations of their self-image reflected in installations made up of multicolored mirrors.
