Created in bright, vibrant colors, Iuri Sarmento's works blend the erudite and the popular, the traditional and the contemporary, and are an invitation to fantasy and beauty.
The exhibition Iuri Sarmento – Baroque Suite presents to the public the work of a contemporary artist who lives and works in São Paulo. Born in Minas Gerais and having lived for a long time in Bahia, Iuri Sarmento brings the Brazilian Baroque heritage back to life through a dynamic and current look. His works, made with an impressive wealth of detail, combine elements such as scrolls, transparencies, gold, lace, porcelain and tiles, transporting the visitor to a magical world full of emotional memories.
The exhibition brings together research groups and features subtle and delicate lace, compositions that include images of antique dishes, floral motifs and tile elements. A group of 35 small-format paintings make up a dense, multicolored panel that shows the artist’s mastery. There are also re-readings of artists such as Di Cavalcanti and Debret, entities such as Iemanjá, Oxóssi and São Jorge and objects made from shards of precious porcelain.
